Help for Families Affected by Exide

A day after the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to send Gov. Jerry Brown a five-signature letter requesting more help for the families impacted by the Exide plant, the Governor announced the allocation of $176.6 million for cleanup and decontamination activities.

“This is a tremendous step,” Los Angeles County Board Chair Hilda L. Solis said. “This funding will bring immediate relief to thousands of families who for so long have been ignored.”

Last month, Solis traveled to Sacramento to urge Brown and the State legislature to come up with funding to test all 10,000 homes for lead and to clean up the most contaminated.

“The community was heard!" Solis said.
