More Economic Development Coming to Council District
In an unanimous vote yesterday, the City Planning Commission approved a mixed-use development located at the current Baldwin Hills broadcast facility for radio stations KABC and KLOS.
Located across from the Expo Line's La Cienega/Jefferson Station, the proposed plans include between one-, two- and three-bedroom units, while commercial space will include 200,000 square feet of office space, 50,000 square feet of stores and restaurants and a 50,000-square-foot grocery store.
L.A. City Council Approves Wesson's Motion to Hire Petroleum Administrator
Council President Herb Wesson introduced a motion last month instructing city officals to hire an expert in petroleum issues on a full-time basis to oversee and manage all oil and gas production activities in the city.
The motion, recently approved by the L.A. City Council, calls for a “more proactive approach to ensure that oil and gas production in the city is conducted in the safest manner possible.”
Wesson Moves to Regulate Sale of Butane Oil
Council President Herb Wesson introduced a motion restricting the sale of butane oil, a product used to make a potent form of marijuana known as Honey Oil, due to the recent demand in sales of the product.
"Butane is dangerous and even as little as one canister can destroy an entire home," said Wesson. "That's frightening and I think that's why we need to step in."
Last year alone, Butane Honey Oil explosions killed 32 people in California, according to the Drug Endangered Children Training and Advocacy Center.

Leslie Shaw Park Opens to the Community
Council President Herb Wesson along with the Department of Recreation and Parks, the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council, and community members celebrated the re-opening of Leslie N. Shaw Park.
Leslie N. Shaw Park improvements included a new custom designed playground with resilient surfacing, fitness equipment, picnic tables, smart irrigation landscaping, fencing, and a walking path around the perimeter of the park. In addition, upgraded lighting will be installed to enhance the visual appeal of the park and provide more security.
