Recently, Councilmember David Ryu and I introduced a motion calling for an analysis of all health and safety impacts associated with petroleum, natural gas and methane activities citywide.
This timely review will provide the city's elected leaders with expert information on how best to protect the health of our communities. The public's health is too important to take chances on and now is the time for a comprehensive and thorough review of these issues.

Wesson Tours Metro's Upcoming Crenshaw Station
Joined by L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Council President Herb Wesson toured Metro's giant Tunnel Boring Machine. The Crenshaw/LAX Rail Line is currently under construction.
Mass transit is the wave of the future and in a show of support L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson joined leaders on a tour of the 950-ton machine named for African-American abolitionist Harriet Tubman. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) or “Harriet” is a giant drill tasked with digging the tunnels needed for the trains to travel underground. The TBM is in process of digging the tunnels that will ultimately connect three Metro stations from Expo/Crenshaw to Vernon/Crenshaw.
The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project is a $2 billion dollar investment in the local community and will have eight new stations serving the Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX areas. It is expected to open in 2019, according to Metro.
For more information on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project visit metro.net/Crenshaw.

Attend the CD10 Public Safety Fair
The City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department (EMD) and the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (UNNC) are hosting a neighborhood disaster exercise as part of America’s PrepareAthon on Saturday, April 30 in Council District 10.
This full scale exercise will simulate a large earthquake, requiring members of the community to actively engage with the scenario, playing the roles of civilian community responders and/or injured survivors. The event will also include participation by local law enforcement, fire fighters, and more.
The neighborhood exercise will conclude with a public safety fair, presented by the UNNC which will feature live music, food trucks, and raffle prizes.
This event is part of the City’s 5 Steps to Neighborhood Preparedness initiative, which educates citizens about what they can do to prepare their neighborhood for a disaster. Additional information about the 5 Steps program, to include a free guide and video, are available at http://www.5steps.la.
