MALDEF Welcomes Six New Members
to Its Board
APRIL 23, 2007 – Last week, MALDEF elected six new members to its Board of Directors. Their commitment to the Latino community and diversity of experiences and perspectives make each of them a unique asset to the organization as MALDEF continues to protect and promote the civil rights of the more than 40 million Latinos living in the United States.
“We are pleased to welcome our newest additions to the Board. I believe that their diversity of experiences will serve well to strengthen our ability to further MALDEF's mission,” noted Frank Quevedo, Chairman of MALDEF’s Board of Directors.
The six new members are Mike Baller, Partner, Goldstein, Demchak, Baller, Borgen & Dardarian, and former MALDEF Director of Litigation and Board Member; Irene Brown, Director, National Programs and Constituency Relations, BP; Maria Echaveste, co-founder, Nueva Vista Group, and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff; Mickey Ibarra, Founder, Ibarra & Associates, and former Special Assistant to President Clinton; Patricia A. Madrid, former Attorney General of New Mexico; and Tom Reston, Attorney at Law and former Chairman of MALDEF Board of Directors.
"We are delighted to add to our Board men and women of national stature who bring expertise and leadership on Latino community issues," said MALDEF President and General Counsel John Trasvina. "We also thank for their tireless service to MALDEF Board Members Norma Cantu, Manuel Martinez, and Peter Villegas whose Board terms concluded."
