ICAN Associates, the Non-Profit for the Los Angeles County “Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect” Appoints Yasmin Davidds to its Board of Directors.
Los Angeles, CA -- January 26, 2010-- ICAN Associates, the Non-Profit for the Los Angeles County “Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect” (ICAN), announced the appointment of Author and Empowerment Specialist Yasmin Davidds to its Board of Directors.
The formation of ICAN Associates represents one of the first public/private partnerships in the nation taking action against child abuse and neglect. ICAN (Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect) was established in 1977 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors as the official county agency to coordinate the development of services for the prevention, identification and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Its Board of Directors consists of business, media and community leaders.

Yasmin Davidds is an internationally recognized speaker, best-selling author and one of the nation's leading authority in the empowerment of Latinas. She has been recognized and highlighted as one of the Top Leading Latinas in the nation by Hispanic Magazine, and has also been featured as one of the most influential Latinas in U.S. History in The Book of Latina Women: 150 Vidas of Passion, Strength and Success. Yasmin has served as a national spokesperson for various campaigns focused on empowerment in the Hispanic community and is currently the empowerment expert for a major internet service and media platform designed for Latinos.
The mandate for much of ICAN's work comes from the ICAN Policy Committee, which includes thirty-two County, City, State and Federal agency heads as well as UCLA, five private sector individuals appointed by the Board of Supervisors and the Children's Planning Council. The Policy Committee is chaired by Los Angeles County Sheriff, Lee Baca.
ICAN associates supports the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect(ICAN) and the important issues addressed by ICAN through the provisions of services including materials, media campaigns, sponsorship of training forums, support for direct and indirect services to prevent child abuse and provide integration and collaboration among agencies serving children, special events for vulnerable and abused children, newsletters, community educational projects and fund raising.
