Dear Neighbor:

I have great news. After an exhaustive, three month investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department, Wednesday morning, announced the capture of Omar Armando Loera, the sole suspect in the horrendous murder of Cheree Osmanhodzic in her Valley Village home on July 24.

Police worked exhaustively with authorities throughout California and in Mexico, where Loera was ultimately taken into custody. They went above and beyond the call of duty and demonstrated tireless perseverance and vigilance. Throughout it all, they had the full support of a community who never wavered in its belief Loera would be caught.

Last month, I stood with police and with Cheree’s mom and dad and promised that Loera would be brought to justice, regardless of how far he ran and how long he hid.  With today’s news, the LAPD made that promise a reality through extraordinary police work and dedication, and through terrific cooperation with many other agencies.  I am immensely proud of the work of the brave men and women of the LAPD, and I am grateful to the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Mexican police for their great assistance in bringing Loera to custody.  I am also grateful to my Council colleagues for supporting my $50,000 reward offer, which played a role in Loera’s arrest.

Valley Village residents, and neighbors in the surrounding areas, came together as one community in response to this crime.  Together, they were vital partners with law enforcement during this investigation and proved that this community will stand strong and united against criminals who would disrupt the peace and tranquility of our neighborhoods.  We sent a clear message to criminals: If you choose to come into our neighborhood to perpetrate violence, we will stop at nothing to ensure that you will be caught and you will be punished.

As we move forward, my thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the family and friends of Cheree Osmanhodzic, who, despite Loera’s capture, will forever remain with the pain of her loss.  May they draw some measure of comfort in knowing that her killer will never again harm another innocent person, and that her community stands with them in their grief.

Very truly yours,

PAUL KREKORIAN
Councilmember, Second District
