CALL TO ACTION!

A coalition of civil rights, parent and community organizations demand that UTLA and LAUSD negotiate a new contract within 30 days.

Los Angeles, Ca. (October 19, 2011) -- On Tuesday a coalition comprised of 14 community groups, parents, and students gathered at the LAUSD headquarters on Beaudry to present a letter to the Board of Education demanding that the LAUSD and UTLA negotiate a new contract within 30 days, and that the Board "empower teachers and create more opportunities for students ahead of those of adults."

Wearing "Don't Hold Us Back" t-shirts the group asked that the district and union embrace policy changes that empower principals and teachers to improve education for students in their schools; ensure teachers are evaluated fairly; and allow teachers to be paid based on their actual performance.

You can make a difference by joining the effort.  Visit www.dontholdusback.org, sign a pledge and let our leadership know that you want them to make changes that will improve school now.

Parents’ right to choose the best school for their children must be protected. Failed policies like the “must-hire” list should be replaced. Every child deserves a quality public school education! Teachers want it, students deserve it, and parents expect it.
