Governor Brown Appoints New Director of Department of Developmental Services
Governor Brown has appointed Santi Rogers as the new director of the Department of Developmental Services. Currently, Mr. Rogers is the director of the Andreas Regional Center. The Governor also announced the appointment of John Doyle, a long time analyst covering health and human services with the Governor’s Department of Finance, as the new Chief Deputy Director.

State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson and State Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg Invite Applications for California’s $250 Million Career Pathways Trust Grants
California is taking a major step toward helping to keep more students in school and better prepare them for careers and well-paying jobs as schools and education agencies across the state can now apply for grants from the state's new $250 million California Career Pathways Trust fund. The request for applications for programs designed to build seamless pathways between schools, higher education, and careers was recently announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg.

Paid Employment Opportunity for Youth Leadership Forum Strategic Planning Intern
Application Deadline:  January 27, 2014
The California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities (CCEPD) is working in consultation with the Center for Collaborative Policy, California State University, Sacramento to develop a California Model Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) 5-year strategic plan. The strategic plan will be developed with the CCEPD, YLF leadership and interested parties over 6 months with a completion date of June 30, 2014. A part-time paid intern is sought to assist in planning and executing the project. Alumni of the YLF program and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.  A job description is linked below.  Applications are being accepted through 5pmPT on January 27, 2014.

RespectAbility Nationwide Poll of People with Disabilities, Family Members, Close Friends, Professionals and Volunteers
A national survey addressed perspectives on employment including attitudes of employers, value of work over benefits by people with disabilities, contributions of government and school and much more. Its intent is to shape federal and state policy and contribute to the national dialogue and priority setting for employment.

Reporting of Purchase of Service Data by Various Categories by the Regional Centers and the Department of Developmental Services
In 2012, a law was passed that required the following under Welfare and Institutions Code section 4519.5: 1) DDS and regional centers to collaborate with each other annually in order to compile data related to purchase of service authorization, utilization, and expenditure. 2) DDS and the regional centers to post such data on each of their respective websites. 3) The regional centers to meet with stakeholders in a public forum after posting the data on their websites. That law was in response to concerns that there may be disparities in expenditure of purchase of service funds by the regional centers to diverse communities, including racial and ethnic communities.
